Course 1: Astra Implant Prosthetic Hands-on by David Porter & Julia Brock
From 9:00 AM - 12:00 AM - 3 CE units
The morning session will be Astra implant/prosthetic hands-on. It will cover the following areas:
- Abutment selection - Impression taking techniques - Soft tissue master model construction
David Porter is a Certified Dental Technician with over 20 years experience. He started his career as an in-house technician where he worked closely with Doctors on complex restorations. He then opened an implant specialty laboratory that specialized in esthetically challenged restorations. He has been employed by three major dental implant manufacturers as a technical advisor and has lectured throughout the United States and Canada on the restorative aspects of implant dentistry. David is now employed by Astra Tech and is responsible for technical assistance, case design, and continuing education courses for the Western United States. Lunch: 12:00 noon to 1 PM
Course 2: Surgical Overview of Dental Implant Placement by Dr. Jin Kim
From 1-5 PM - 4 CE units
The following topics will be covered in the afternoon session: - Identifying candidates for implant treatment - Understanding indications/contraindications for implant therapy - Patient communication using visual aids
Dr. Jin Kim was raised in Sydney Australia where he attended Newington College, and the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney. He furthered his education with an advanced degree in pathology with honors at University of Sydney. Dr. Kim then settled in California, where he completed master degrees in public health and oral biology, and a three-year specialty residency training program in periodontics and implant surgery at UCLA School of Dentistry. Dr. Kim is board-certified by the American Board of Periodontology and the American Board of Oral Implantology, making him a unique and rare dual board-certified specialist in the US.
COURSE FEE:
Active CAVAD member: $100 (2008 membership due paid)
Non-CAVAD member: $160
CAVAD Membership dues: $50
For dentists, both courses must be registered, no exception please!
Registration deadline: Wednesday, August 20, 2008. No refund if cancel after the deadline Due to limited spaces, pre-registration is required. Add $10 if registration material post marked after 8/20/08 - add $20 if register at the door.

To unite the Vietnamese American Dentists in the state of California. To provide educational and scientific information, as well as courses that allow the exchange and enhancement of technical knowledge that better serves the community.
Association Profile
The California Association of Vietnamese-American Dentists (CAVAD) first was formed as an alumni of Vietnamese dentists in exile in 1982. November 1985 was the official birth of CAVAD. To date, CAVAD's membership has grown to over 160 active members (of about 400 Vietnamese dentists in Southern California). There are now members representing most dental specialties - oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, pedodontics and endodontics.
