Required CDPA, Infection Control and BLS Courses:
In 2010, dentist employers will be responsible for ensuring dental assistants complete:
1. California Dental Practice Act (CDPA) course (within one year of employment)
2. Infection control course (within one year of employment)
3. Basic life support (maintain certification). This course will be given by CAVAD in March 2010.
Course 1: California Dental Practice Act by Attorney Hong P. Nguyen
From 9:00 AM - 12:00 AM - 3 CE units
The morning session will be: California Dental Practice Act - review of what the Act says about C.E. requirements, unlicensed practice, unprofessional conduct, MediCal and insurance fraud, dental auxiliaries, advertisement, and other major topics.
Attorney Hong P. Nguyen is legal counsel to many dentists and well experienced in assisting dentists in all legal aspects of the dental profession, such as office leases, professional corporations, buy-sell agreements, audits, and estate planning. Ms. Nguyen is a graduate of UCLA Law School and has been in practice since 1990.
Lunch: noon to 1 PM & Annual Assembly meeting
Course 2: Ergonomics and Infection Control by Nancy Andrews
From 1-5 PM - 4 CE units
Nancy Andrews is a Clinical Affairs Manager. She has published numerous articles and a renowned national instructor for Ergonomics and Infection Control.
COURSE FEE:
Active CAVAD member: $110 (2010 membership due paid)
Non-CAVAD member: $160
Staff of CAVAD member: $80.00 (Staff or non-dentist only)
CAVAD Membership dues: $70
For dentists, both courses must be registered, no exception please!
Registration deadline: Wednesday, January 13, 2010. No refund if cancel after the deadline.
Due to limited spaces, pre-registration is required. Add $10 if registration material post marked after 1/13/10 - add $20 if register at the door.

To unite the Vietnamese American Dentists in the state of California. To provide educational and scientific information, as well as courses that allow the exchange and enhancement of technical knowledge that better serves the community.
Association Profile
The California Association of Vietnamese-American Dentists (CAVAD) first was formed as an alumni of Vietnamese dentists in exile in 1982. November 1985 was the official birth of CAVAD. To date, CAVAD's membership has grown to over 160 active members (of about 400 Vietnamese dentists in Southern California). There are now members representing most dental specialties - oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, pedodontics and endodontics.
